Buffy/Serenity photos

Doctor Who photos

February 17, 2006

Just got word from Diamond that the Judge figure that we saw was a 2-up prototype. The Judge will definitely be to scale with the other Buffy figures and will, therefore, be only slightly taller than the other figures.

Updated with one more photo and some more information:

The photo below shows two Willow busts: "Villains" Willow and "Lover's Walk" Willow (gotta love that witchy PEZ). We were told that the Willow busts may be shopped around to find Exclusive holders. Hopefully, somebody picks them up because the likenesses, like the Essence series of statues, is quite good.

We did mention to Diamond that we were a little concerned that the prototypes always looked fantastic but the final product was often a poor imitation of the prototype.

We saw the new "Revamped" series of figures with Buffy and Angel with their spare legs. These figures are mini playsets that you can interchange the characters and their various peg holes. You can set Buffy on top of a dumpster (comes with little trash bags) or you can put her in the Angel's scene of office destruction. The one thing that is obvious about these figures is that the Angel figure does not look as good as the Angel in the Essence statue. Hopefully, they still have time to make Angel a bit more like David Boreanaz.

We asked about the arrival dates of certain merchandise due out in the coming months...specifically the Watchers Set and Mr. Gordo. We were told, and this was echoed by other companies, that release dates at this time of year were always dicey because of the Chinese New Year celebrations in China. For those who don't know, China tends to shut down around this time of year ... and shut down for a week to two weeks! If the figures or Mr. Gordo got onto a boat before they shut down, they may arrive on time but if they didn't, it's doubtful they'll be on time.

For those also wondering, Anyanka's Amulet is available to retailers who ordered directly from Genki Wear since Genki Wear had them air shipped to them. However, retailers getting them from Diamond (like us) will have to wait since they were being shipped from China by boat. Genki Wear is also planning the Gem of Amara (solicitations are already under way or soon to be underway) and a claddaugh ring set. More information should become available soon.

We talked with Dark Horse about the Serenity ships and PVC figures. The important news here is that the Reaver disguised Serenity is a limited edition. All orders placed by March 1st will determine the production run of the ship. In other words, they do NOT plan on doing a second "printing" of this ship. Once these ships are sold, they're sold out forever. The regular Serenity ship, however, may be reproduced at any time.

Today's meeting with Diamond was very informative. We finally know what's happening with the Oz/Dru/Principal Wood figures. They are being resolicited as 2 waves that will be released together so that the entire Judge figure can be put together without forcing the fans to wait for another wave. The figures will now be 2 different Oz figures, 2 different Dru figures (including a Vampire Dru), Principal Wood (no longer a Previews figures) and Band Candy Giles. As mentioned earlier, pieces of the Judge will be included with each figure in the assortment and you can put him together just like Spike and Dru did in Becoming Part II. We've been told that they plan on packing the figures so that the assortment is even. In other words, no chase figures...if you have a case of figures, you should have complete sets...no partial sets. Hopefully, they'll really pack 'em that way. The photo below shows a very large Judge...so it should be reduced in scale to match the other figures in the series. (Sorry the photo is so bad...)

The Kennedy/Willow/Kendra figures are on schedule. Kendra will be the Previews Exclusive. White Witch Willow is the chase figure. They are looking for exclusive holders for "Halloween" Willow, "Doppelgangland" Willow and "Tough Love" Willow.

The amazing "Essence" statues of Spike, Angel, Buffy and Willow are simply put...brilliant. They come with lights to light up the flames or candles or back lit doors. Our favourite is the Angel statue which reminds everybody of the great opening sequence.

Mr Gordo and Feigenbaum have their packaging.
(By the way, the cross in the bottom of the Feigenbaum photo is the newest Buffy prop they're going to make...the cross of Du Lac.

There's also, finally...Faith's knife...the one that slid into her like butter.

More photos to come...

February 11, 2006.

First day of the 2007 Toy Fair saw us visiting the Sideshow area (it's really too big to just call it a booth). It appears as if the Buffy display has been reduced to one pedestal of Premium figures and assorted 12 inch figures.

The exciting news was that Sideshow is producing a second Premium Format Buffy Figure based on Graduation Day.

There was also a Premium Format Spike.

And the long awaited 12 inch Giles figure.

Next stop was the Diamond booth where we saw the Watcher's Set along with Feigenbaum and Mr. Gordo.

No sign of the newly cancelled Oz, Dru or Principal Wood. We have our meeting with DST on Monday so hopefully we'll find out once and for all if the figures are cancelled or if they still plan on resoliciting them but in a different case assortment. We should, hopefully, also get some tentative release dates on some of the Buffy DST props and figures that are still being planned.

Diamond also displayed the Darkhorse Serenity in Reaver disguise ornament and the PVC figures.
